Eventually they – if they’re programmed right – call, either directly or indirectly, display-buffer to do this. WebIt works like this: emacs has two important locations it remembers about each buffer which are: The point - this is where text you type goes in, and where the cursor box is drawn The mark - this is another location in the buffer which does all sorts of stuff; when you have a selection visible, the mark is the other end of the selection from point.
