Bisphosphatase medication
WebFructose 1,6-bisphosphatase (FBPase) is a key enzyme in gluconeogenesis. It is a potential drug target in the treatment of type II diabetes. The protein is also associated with a rare inherited metabolic disease and some cancer cells lack FBPase activity which promotes glycolysis facilitating the Warburg effect. WebFructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (FBPase), a rate-controlling enzyme of gluconeogenesis, has emerged as an important target for the treatment of type 2 diabetes due to the well-recognized role of excessive endogenous glucose production (EGP) in the hyperglycemia characteristic of the disease.

Bisphosphonates are a class of drugs that prevent the loss of bone density, used to treat osteoporosis and similar diseases. They are the most commonly prescribed drugs used to treat osteoporosis. They are called bisphosphonates because they have two phosphonate (PO(OH) 2) groups. They are thus also called diphosphonates (bis- or di- + phosphonate).
